As if the title wasn’t a total spoiler alert, Cam is indeed “Smoking Mars OG.” Per the song, he’s wasted no time returning to the studio or dropping music after the release of Nice Dreams 2 this month, using autotune to depict his buzz, his bitches, and…his lifestyle. Did Young Cam make his mark with Sumn Sumn? That was the question a friend, a sideline fan to the music, asked me a few days ago.
I’m not on the inside of the equation but, from the outside, I’d say he did. Being honest, most people outside of Cam Dogg’s immediate area counted him out. Another artist who has been ignored by XXL. Honestly, being part of those freshman lists may prove to be a curse more than a blessing since the added attention heaps on expectations that may never be met in today’s music climate. Rap stars turn to pop stars now not because they can rap but by how “entertaining” they can be.
Cam may have lost attention over the past year but he never lost his punctual flow and all the memories that made his depiction of his stoner life so unique. And that’s half of what gets captured here in the visuals for “Double S Shit,” the track featuring Ras Da Zed from the project.
People might be sleeping on Young Cam, but you can guarantee we aren’t here at SS Media. The NOLA boy just dropped a new project, and judging on past tracks that have had tranquilizing beats, Nice Dreams 2 should not disappoint. J Young & Ras Da Zed make an appearance on a couple tracks, but it’s mostly Cam on this one.
